It’s that time of year again! The Michigan Historic Preservation Network is busily preparing for the 32nd Annual Statewide Conference. This year it will be held at the historic Masonic Temple in Flint on May 10 through May 12. In addition to the event’s wide array of networking and educational opportunities, the conference features an exciting silent auction, which will take place on the 10th. This portion of the conference is a favorite among many attendees, providing them with the chance to mingle and network in a relaxed, informal setting with a competitive twist. It’s always fun to see what kinds of items will be up for auction, and popular contributions in the past have included books, works of art, weekend stays in historic hotels and B&Bs, as well as tours and gift certificates of all kinds.
Thanks to the support of generous donors over the past years, the MHPN conference silent auction has been able to raise thousands of dollars to support on-going preservation, education, and economic revitalization initiatives across the state. The MHPN’s programs have become even more important over the last year due to budget cuts and the elimination of the state historic preservation rehabilitation tax credit.
The donations for this year’s silent auction are already rolling in, and I personally can’t wait to see what else will turn up by May! If you are interested in supporting the MHPN by donating an item or two to our silent auction, please contact Shelley Greene, this year’s Auction Coordinator, at 517-392-7839, or firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for all donation submissions is May 2, 2012. We hope you will join us for this fun event!
